This Program Could Cut Your EV Cost by Up to $24,000

Green Energy Consumers Alliance Review

— By Tyler Philbrook —

The cost of gas has always been the largest expense for Rideshare drivers.

Rising gas prices lately have made it harder, even feeling impossible, to still be an Uber or Lyft driver and make a livable income.

Though buying a new car for rideshare driving isn’t usually a good idea, it may make sense now to do so if switching to an electric car.

Not only will your “fuel” expense go down, but so will the maintenance. Additionally, with so many incentives being offered right now, you can potentially get a brand new electric car for less than you paid for your first car as a teenager.

There are many places to get help making that decision, as well as to walk you through the process of getting rebates and incentives.

If you live in Massachusetts, Ride Clean Mass can help you get in a new EV for less than you think.

What is Ride Clean Mass?

Ride Clean Mass, managed by CALSTART, financially backed by Massachusetts Clean Energy Center (MassCEC), in partnership with Green Energy Consumers alliance, assists local residents in securing significant financial incentives for both EV rentals and purchases.

Together, these organizations work to educate on effective carbon-reduction strategies, vehicle choices, and financial programs.

Their primary goal is to help you lower your carbon footprint while putting substantial savings back into your pocket.

How Ride Clean Mass Helps Rideshare Drivers

Getting a new EV and managing incentives and rebates can feel overwhelming. With Ride Clean Mass, you can do it more easily and cheaply.

Guide You Through Rebates

As of the writing of this article, if you live in Massachusetts and drive for Uber or Lyft, you could get up to $24,000 off your new Electric Vehicle.

The program helps you identify eligible vehicles and ensures you complete the necessary documentation to claim every dollar.

Uber Go Electric - $4,000

If you are a platinum or diamond driver for Uber, you may qualify for this program.

Instead of it being an incentive you automatically get back, though, after you apply and get the car, you then have to do another 100 rides before December 31st, 2026, to get the incentive.

MOR-EV - $6,000

This program allows any resident of Massachusetts to apply for and receive this rebate.

You’re able to get $3,500 for purchasing the EV, $1,500 for MOR-EV+, and $1,000 if you are trading in a gas vehicle.

Unlike the Uber Go Electric program, you can apply for the rebate after you have already purchased the vehicle. As long as it’s within 90 days of purchase.

Ride Clean Mass - $14,000

The Ride Clean Mass program allows for Uber and Lyft drivers to receive this huge rebate, of more than my first car cost.

This program has as its goal to get 600 to 900 EVs on the road by the end of 2027, and yours could be one of them.

If you aren’t ready to commit to getting a new vehicle, especially an EV which you’ve never driven, the Ride Clean Mass also offers a rebate of $200 per week for up to 8 weeks when renting an EV. If you like it, you can then apply for the rebate to purchase your own vehicle. A great way to try it before you buy it.

Help Charge At Home

A major concern of many I know who want an EV, or already have one, is being able to charge it at home.

Green Energy Consumers Alliance, a partner of Ride Clean Mass, helps with that too.

Their Charging and Driving page offers ways you can charge your EV at home, on the go, and during winter, and provides the basics of charging for those of us new to it.

Additional charging assistants and route planning:

Locate locations in USA and Canada that are publicly accessible.

Free community where you can get and share information on charging stations

Route planner to ensure you have a destination where you’ll charge on your road trip.

You’re also able to get help finding incentives to add a charging station in your home through their Drive Green program.

Locate The Perfect EV

Ride Clean Mass program partner, Green Energy Consumers Alliance, can help you compare electric vehicle models with their EV Finder. You're able to see not only the EV’s that are included in several programs, but also more information about those vehicles.

Once you find the car you want, you fill out a simple form, and then you’ll be contacted with additional information.

I Don’t Live in Massachusetts

Unfortunately, if you don’t live in Massachusetts, you don’t qualify for Ride Clean Mass.

However, their partners are able to help you make decisions and changes, no matter where you live.

The Drive Green Community Facebook group will help you learn more about EVs and what’s right for you. You’ll be able to learn and talk with real people who had the same questions you had and can answer them.

You can also listen to their podcast to help you become energy efficient.

Conclusion

With the help of their partners, Green Energy Consumers Alliance, CALSTART, and MassCEC, Ride Clean Mass serves Uber and Lyft drivers. Helping them potentially save almost the entire cost of a new EV.

Not only will you save money on gas, the largest expense for all rideshare drivers, but also on maintenance and the total cost of the car as well.
